What’s New?

Introducing OverDrive!

For patrons who enjoy the convenience of listening to books on cassette, CD, and playaway, the newest phase of audio-to-go is here: downloadable audio books.
The digital versions of audio books may be downloaded through the internet and played on your desktop or laptop computer. You can also transfer your selections to a wide range of portable devices. iPod and Mac, however, do not currently support WMA (Windows Media Audio) files.

    OverDrive features:
  • check-out of up to 5 audio books at one time
  • 14-day loan period
  • holds placement
  • no renewals, but titles may be checked out again by reactivating the license
  • list of compatible digital devices
You will need your library card number and PIN number (usually the last four digits of your phone number) to set up an account and install the free OverDrive Media console software at www.listennjnw.org. Explore this easy-to-use site or ask a staff member for assistance. Information will also be available through the M.A.I.N. website. OverDrive website

PLAYAWAY - The Newest Way to Curl up with a Great Book!

We have now begun a collection of audio books in a new format called "playaway".

So what is Playaway?
Playaway is the newest format of audio, combining a wide variety of content with an easy-to-use player all in one small unit. When you receive your Playaway, all you have to do is press play to start listening immediately – there is no need for a separate player, and it comes with earbuds and a battery to make it play.
Playaway is the most simple and immediate way to enjoy music and audiobooks. Its portability allows users to enjoy their favorite authors and titles on-the-go, whenever and wherever.

What makes Playaway unique?

  • Playaway is the easiest way to listen to a book or music – the only thing you need to do is press play!
  • Each Playaway contains an entire book or music compilation, regardless of length (up to 80 hours!).
  • A Playaway weighs only 2 ounces and can easily fit in a pocket for ultimate portability and multitasking.
  • They come with an automatic bookmark function that remembers where you left off.
  • Playaways have a universal headphone jack that can be used with a number of mobility accessories including portable speakers, FM transmitters, and audio cables to listen in virtually any environment.
If you don’t have your own ear buds, the library is selling them for $1.00.
For more information, visit the Playaway website. Playaways are located on the audio book shelves. Try one—and let us know what you think!

Video Games are Coming!

This month the library is starting a video game rental collection that we hope will appeal not only to kids and teens, but to all family members. Games from several different platforms will be available, including Nintendo Wii , XBox 360, and Playstation 2. The initial collection has games rated E and E10, although some Teen-rated games will be available in the future. The rental cost for the games will be $2.00 for one week. Look for them soon in the DVD area.

Doors of Brookside - 60 th Anniversary Print Sale

In honor of the library's 60th anniversary, we are pleased to offer for sale prints of a pastel painting by Elizabeth Schrier. These prints depicting four “Doors of Brookside”, including the library, come matted and are available for $35.00.

Share Your Talents!

We need Adults and High School Students to Lead a One-Time Program. Enrich your community by volunteering. Are you a gardener, artist, singer, writer or storyteller? Share your hobbies and talents with children! The library is looking for volunteers to lead one-time programs for children. Please email Stephanie Cotton if you are interested.
